After reading Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time in the sixth grade, I knew I wanted to be a writer. I loved how stories could transport readers to other worlds and touch their hearts. My dream was to create works like that.
I was born and raised in Grand Forks, North Dakota, graduating from UND with a Bachelor of Arts in English. My plan was to be a writer. In 1989, I moved to Chicago to be a part of an inner-city ministry, putting my writing plans on hold. I met and married my husband and we started a family.
Not long after that, the stories started. I began writing picture book manuscripts, some inspired by the city where we lived, most inspired by my daughters. Electric Angel was inspired by both. One of our favorite family outings was taking an 'L' train ride to Millennium Park to hear the Grant Park Orchestra and Choir.
In 2004, we moved to Wisconsin to be closer to family, but we all have a soft spot in our hearts for Chicago. Whenever we visit the City of the Big Shoulders, we make time for ‘L’ rides and concerts.
Along with being a writer, I also work full-time at a Montessori public school. My husband and I have three daughters and a medley pets. To help keep the music in Millennium Park free, I have committed to donate 100% of my royalties for the first run of book sales to the Grant Park Music Festival.
